Description
If you’re generating over 30 psi of boost or exceeding 3500 rpm with your 1989-1998 Dodge 5.9L Diesel, Hamilton Cams 07-S-001 Beehive Valve Springs can address several issues you might be facing. Firstly, they can prevent valve float, which can cause significant damage to the valvetrain. Secondly, they can stop intake and exhaust valves from being forced open by boost and exhaust drive pressure, which leads to reversion. Reversion allows exhaust gases to enter the cylinder during the intake stroke, reducing power potential by shielding fuel particles from oxygen.
This situation negatively impacts power by increasing the delay from the start of injection to combustion, decreasing the maximum pressure and temperature reached in the cylinder, and extending the time needed to completely burn the available fuel. Correct valve spring pressure is crucial for optimal power production.
Hamilton has observed 10-12 hp gains when customers switch from 60 lb. springs to their beehive springs. These springs are effective up to 5,000 rpm with moderate cams. If you’re operating above 5,000 rpm with a robust cam and/or larger valves, consider upgrading to the Hamilton Cams dual spring for enhanced safety and valve control.
